Baked French Toast
Most of you have probably heard of French Toast. It's
eaten quite often in the US, Canada and Europe. Where
it originated from is not exactly clear. Medieval sources
in Europe mention similar recipes as French Toast. A
childish incident in 2003 caused them to be renamed in the US
to Freedom Toast (like the change from French Fries into
Freedom Fries) due to France not wanting to support the war against Iraq. French Toast is usually made with bread, eggs
milk, water to thin the eggs, sugar, and some spices. Some people prefer to add vanilla as well.
What you need:
1 (1 pound) loaf of sliced French bread
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups skim milk
1/3 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
6 apple - peeled, cored and sliced
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup margarine, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup skim milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Expect 12 servings out of this recipe.
How to make French Toast:
Note : 1 Inch = 2.54 cm.
Get the bread and cut it into 1,5 inch thick slices.
Prepare a baking pan and grease it lightly. Put the bread
in it. Beat the eggs in a large bowl, include the 1/2 cup
of skim milk, 1/3 cup of white sugar and just 1 tablespoon
vanilla. Pour the egg mixture over bread slices. Sort the
apple slices on top of the bread. Sprinkle some nutmeg,
cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of white sugar over the
apples. Now cover the ingredients and refrigerate overnight.
When you get up in the morning preheat an oven to 350
degrees (which is 175 Celsius). Bake the toast in the oven
until it looks golden brown, should take about 1 hour. During this you can combine the 1/2 cup of white sugar, flour,
and margarine. Stir them in brown sugar, 1/2 cup of skim
milk, and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Use a small saucepan for this.
Cook until it's thick. French Toast should be served
hot with warm sauce.
